96 hours of work
Around Easter there was already plenty of activity on the tracks and yards in the Port of Rotterdam area. The Pentecost weekend will see even greater activity. From Saturday 4 June, the railway line will be out of action for 96 hours, including the replacement of points, renewal of level crossings on emergency routes, digging trenches for fire extinguishing facilities and replacing lighting. Work is being carried out all over the area.
To minimise inconvenience, the decision was made to combine as much work as possible into one large outage. On Wednesday afternoon, 6 June, freight trains will be able to travel along the harbour railway line again.
Over Easter, 17.5 kilometres of track had to be cleared of equipment so contractors could get rid of their machines and have space to work safely. That meant letting freight trains park elsewhere in the country in time.
