First train run
From 1 July, goods trains will run 14 times a week from Antwerp to the German terminals in Frankfurt am Main, Wörth, Germersheim and Neuss. Trains to Neuss will run via the Brabant route between Roosendaal and Venlo. This will not increase the number of trains on that route. Medway will take over journeys from a third party. For the other destinations, trains will run via Aachen.
Rail freight
Rail is one of the most sustainable forms of transport. We want to contribute to the shift of freight transport from road, water and air to rail. Read how we do that.
MSC Group
Medway was established within the MSC Group in Portugal in 2009 when MSC bought the freight arm of the Portuguese railways. The next step was to build Medway in Spain, and not much later Medway Italia S.R.L. followed in 2018. MSC is active in the cruise ship sector on the one hand, but the shipping company also has cargo ships at sea worldwide. With Medway, MSC can offer customers all-in-one packages because the containers are also further transported ashore on behalf of MSC.
So it was with this in mind that MSC made the decision to expand Medway’s operations northwards. Medway Belgium is an official branch of Medway Italia S.R.L. and operates on an extension of the Italian safety certificate approved by the governments of Belgium, the Netherlands and Germany. Medway Belgium is headquartered in Antwerp because the port of Antwerp will always be a major factor.
Growth
Following that first step, Medway will add more MSC-related products to its portfolio. The port of Antwerp (including the Zeebrugge merger), key terminals in the Netherlands and Germany will play a role in Medway’s growth. Later, Medway plans to launch itself in the market as a 100% neutral and private rail freight operator.
