ProRail looks back at 2022. We zoom in on the subject of rail freight and reflect on performance in the Sea-to-Zevenaar area.

By the end of 2022, we had added ‘Infrastructure in Order’ to thefutureisours.nl . This has created a comprehensive platform that provides updates on what is happening in the Dutch freight logistics and rail sector, as well as insights into ProRail’s work to future-proof infrastructure in the Port of Rotterdam and elsewhere in the Netherlands. The main aim here is to restore confidence in the rail product among shippers, operators and terminals in both the Netherlands and Europe. ‘The future is ours’ was launched in 2020 and is a bilingual platform with information on developments within rail freight transport, its challenges and solutions. This platform was set up by RailCargo Information Netherlands, the Rotterdam Port Authority, EvoFenedex and ProRail.

Last year we also focused on clearing the infrastructure backlog and addressing logistical bottlenecks. Twenty-eight points and connecting railway branches were replaced and several level crossings were renewed. Our approach to copper theft proved successful, with no disruptions due to copper theft in 2022. The number of disruptions is high, but a downward trend since Q3 2022 has begun.
