Resolved
Due to leaks in the newly constructed fire-extinguishing system, there was temporarily no functioning fire-extinguishing system at Pernis yard. This was the reason for the yard being taken ttemporarily out of service. In January 2023, the leaks were fixed, but new leaks arose during subsequent tests. Additional consultants were then brought in to answer the question of what exactly was going on here and how it could be fixed. From Monday 20 February to Thursday 2 March, the solution, which consisted of reinforcing every joint in the system, was implemented and tested. From Monday 6 March at 12:00, hazardous goods can be moved again at Pernis.
Regional Director Helga Cuijpers: “I am relieved for all carriers, terminals and shippers involved that Pernis is available without logistical restrictions once again. It has taken longer than we had hoped and expected; this was due to the complex scope of work. I would like to thank everyone externally and internally who worked to keep the logistics running, given the restrictions, and those who brought the work to a successful conclusion.”

To be continued
The work at Pernis is not yet complete. In the coming period, we will work hard to carry out the final work. For instance, the system still has to be flushed to ensure that sand, stones and possibly other material is flushed from the pipes. But there are also emergency access roads to be made, and we will install lighting and remove fencing.
So from Monday 6 March, the yard will be fully usable again. That does not mean that everything can operate there again right away. Our colleagues from capacity allocation are working hard to modify the plans before the coming weekend and until then carriers can coordinate their wishes with traffic control.
